New! Feb 2018 - MYCOPLASMA BOVIS SURVEILLANCE UPDATE
As part of the ongoing Mycoplasma bovis surveillance being conducted by MPI, milk samples submitted to the Gribbles Veterinary network for routine mastitis culture are also assayed for M. bovis. The results of this secondary testing is reported to MPI (MPI will contact any relevant parties should M. bovis be detected).
To ensure accurate information is captured during this surveillance process, milk samples submitted for routine mastitis culture MUST include the milk company name and supply number on the paperwork. To date, the level of compliance following our initial request has been very poor, so accordingly we have simplified this further.
Capturing this information is required under Section 43 of the Biosecurity Act 1993, and will help ensure MPI build an accurate picture of the surveillance data. Your assistance is much appreciated.
If you have any questions or would like any further information, please contact Paul Fitzmaurice, Laboratory Manager at Gribbles Veterinary Palmerston North (06 356 7100).
