Export Testing (live animal and germplasm)

Export Testing (live animal and germplasm)

New Zealand is a significant contributor to the world livestock export sector, supplying high value breeding stock to destinations across the globe. By far the most significant area of activity for New Zealand is the export of dairy heifers to countries/regions such as China, Latin America and South East Asia. In addition to live animal exports, New Zealand is also an exporter of high quality semen and embryos from dairy and beef cattle, sheep, deer, goats, pigs, dogs and horses.

As an established exporter you will recognise that in order to meet strict market access requirements, a range of diagnostic testing must invariably be completed and that these tests must be performed by an approved laboratory. Awanui Veterinary was New Zealand’s first privately owned laboratory to be accredited to carry out serological and microbiological testing for live animal and germplasm export, and we continue to be accredited under the Ministry for Primary Industries’ Recognised Laboratory Programme (formerly Export Laboratory Programme). Since first attaining accreditation in 2004, we have established ourselves as the diagnostic services provider of choice for many of Australasia’s leading exporters and breeding centres.

Services include:

  • Pre-purchase screening of livestock
  • On-farm testing
  • Quarantine (pre-export isolation) testing
  • Diagnostic interpretation and consultation
  • Breeding centre testing

Our export testing facilities are conveniently located in Palmerston North, but samples can be submitted to any one of our five IANZ accredited laboratories around the country from where we will manage the sample transportation and logistics on your behalf.

With a proven track record of completing large export contracts, we understand the importance of delivering highly accurate and repeatable results quickly and cost effectively.

As an independent diagnostic testing provider, we work closely with AsureQuality to ensure a seamless integration between the collection of bloods by AsureQuality personnel and the provision of test results from our accredited laboratory. Exporters are therefore able to choose Awanui Veterinary as their preferred export testing partner without introducing any additional complexity or delays to the overall export process.
